“The idea of waiting for something makes it more exciting.” (Andy Warhol)
With a great deal of excitement, and some nervousness, I’ve decided to take the plunge and have arranged to depart on my first Europe Explored expedition in a couple of weeks time. This trip will cover two complete routes from the Europe by Rail book, which I have used as inspiration for planning the Europe Explored project.
So, all being well, Europe Explored is at last due to set off nearly 18 months after the original planned date for the first trip. Rather than being booked months in advance, this one has been put together hastily in the last week. In these uncertain times it is, of course, possible that something may still go wrong to thwart me once again, but most of the bookings have been made on a refundable basis, so long as I know that I need to cancel a day or two in advance.
I don’t know how the constraints of travelling during Covid restrictions will impair my normal enjoyment of exploring new places. To some extent, I’m using this relatively short trip as a trial to see whether to plan anything else in the near future.
To find out where I am going and how I get on, then follow me on Twitter (@EuropeExplored). I hope to provide regular Twitter updates throughout my trip and will provide a fuller report on this blog following my return.
